L'Abordage asbl

L'Abordage asbl (non-profit association)

L'Abordage asbl (a non-profit association) was born out of a reflection by the Maison Médicale Esseghem on the social and environmental aspects of health problems. The Maison Médicale wanted to create a meeting place in the neighborhood to promote health and well-being, without necessarily "medicalizing" it. Hence the creation of a neighborhood center, l'abordage.

In March 2000, a coordinator was hired to set up a reception and activity structure. The team is now made up of six people.

The Maison de Quartier l'Abordage pursues its missions of social cohesion, cohabitation and social integration, promoting health and quality of life, through an active and participative pedagogy.

The main objective is to carry out intergenerational projects aimed at improving the well-being of the inhabitants of the Esseghem district by setting up positive exchanges between people living in the social housing district of Jette, namely :

  • develop information, reflection, action and autonomy for the well-being of residents from an individual and/or community perspective;
  • create links between generations, encourage communication and encounters between juniors and seniors;
  • revitalize the neighborhood through community actions aimed at all residents, involving them in individual and/or collective projects in partnership with other local and regional associations;
  • create a dynamic that will enable mutual aid mechanisms and local services to be set up.

In close collaboration with the Maison Médicale, l'Abordage offers a wide range of creative workshops and courses by and for residents of all ages and cultures (tutoring, video-making courses for young people, conversation tables, language courses, sewing workshops, tonic gym, bike training, health activities, etc.).
